Briefing on the nomination process for the Committee of Experts on International Cooperation in Tax Matters
9 February 2021 from 8am-9am NY time

Organized by the Financing for Sustainable Development Office of the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (FSDO/UNDESA)

The UN Tax Committee is an influential UN expert body, bringing global recognition to the United Nations as a major norm- and policy-shaping body on tax matters. The Committee generates practical guidance for governments, tax administrators and taxpayers in the area of international taxation as part of mobilizing financing and other support for sustainable development, with special emphasis on least developed countries and other countries in special situations.

With Note Verbal DESA-20/02431 of 16 December 2020, the Secretary-General has invited the Governments of the Permanent Representatives of Member States and the Permanent Observers of Non-member States to the United Nations to nominate an expert for the next four-year term of the United Nations Committee of Experts on International Cooperation in Tax Matters.

The Committee of Experts comprises twenty-five members nominated by Governments and acting in their expert capacity, drawn from the fields of tax policy and tax administration. The term of office is four years, starting 1 July 2021 and ending 30 June 2025.

In considering and preparing nominations, delegations may have questions regarding the Committee, the Committee’s term, its mode of operation, the nomination process and the selection criteria. As Secretariat of the Committee, FSDO/UNDESA will conduct a briefing to answer these questions. You may also find frequently asked questions here.

The briefing is taking place virtually and is open to members of UN delegations and their interested colleagues from capitals. Please register by sending an email until 5 February 2021 to taxcommittee@un.org. Your questions about the nomination process may also be sent in advance to the same email address, taxcommittee@un.org
