The Addis Ababa Action Agenda acknowledges that international trade is an engine for inclusive economic growth and poverty reduction. It notes that, with appropriate supporting policies, infrastructure and an educated work force, trade can also help to realize productive employment and contribute to achieving the sustainable development goals, among other objectives (see Addis Ababa Action Area monitoring by topic below).

The Task Force has two goals:
to monitor progress on the Addis Agenda and advise governments on Financing for Sustainable Development.
