Addressing systemic issues

Strengthening global governance

The Addis Ababa Action Agenda calls for reforms to the international architecture, including to ensure that international mechanisms and institutions keep pace with the increased complexity of the world and respond to the imperatives of sustainable development. The Addis Agenda builds on the Monterrey Consensus in calling for the implementation of governance reforms to ensure a more inclusive and representative international architecture.

Improving cooperation, coordination and policy coherence

The Addis Ababa Action Agenda recognizes that institutional “silos” need to be broken down through cross-fertilization of ideas and more effective coordination of actions, and stresses the importance of addressing inconsistencies in the system. This was already recognized in the Monterrey Consensus, which highlighted the urgent need to enhance coherence, governance and consistency of the international monetary, financial and trading systems.
