Workshop on Municipal Infrastructure Asset Management in SEE

The Workshop

On 14-17 December 2021, FSDO implemented the Workshop on Municipal Infrastructure Asset Management (IAM) in South-East Europe in collaboration with UNOPS, UNCDF, the Network of Associations of Local Authorities (NALAS), and GIZ. The workshop brought together 25 representatives from municipalities and local government associations from 12 economies across South-East Europe. The event followed an innovative hybrid format in which participants were on-site in Belgrade with local FSDO consultants providing field support, while international expert trainers delivered the UN IAM toolkits live online. Training modules included an “Introduction to Sustainable IAM”; “Data for Asset Management”; “Climate Resilient Asset Management”; “Strengthening Public Health Emergency Preparedness”, as well as “Building an enabling regulatory and institutional environment for asset management”. As a result of the workshop, participants developed multi-year and risk-informed Asset Management Action Plans (AMAPs) for their municipalities. Representatives from across the region expressed their commitment to implement concrete actions considered in their AMAPs to achieve sustainable  and inclusive delivery of basic services. They  also expressed their need for further guidance on how to ensure that implementation of their next steps ensure risk reduction and build resilience in local communities. The workshop outcome will add a new regional dimension to the global  UN AMAP network, which already has seen the development of more than 150 AMAPs submitted by more than 560 officials from across Africa, Asia – Pacific, and Latin America and the Caribbean.
