Peer Learning workshop on Infrastructure Asset Management for local government officials in Uttarakhand, India

This Peer Learning Workshop on Infrastructure Asset Management (IAM) convenes senior local government officials and key stakeholders from across Uttarakhand, India, in a collaborative environment to strengthen institutional capacity in sustainable, climate-resilient infrastructure management. Jointly organized by the State of Uttarakhand and the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN DESA), the workshop aims to build practical knowledge and cross-sectoral dialogue around IAM systems that support inclusive, resilient, and sustainable development at the local level.

Through interactive sessions and hands-on exercises, participants will explore core IAM principles and practices, including data-driven decision-making, lifecycle planning, and climate adaptation strategies. Using solid and liquid waste management as an entry point, the workshop will also provide practical guidance on applying UN tools and methodologies in the local governance context.

Ultimately, this workshop seeks to promote integrated planning, long-term financing, and multi-stakeholder engagement, enabling local governments to better manage public assets and deliver services that meet the evolving needs of their communities.

Workshop objectives:

  • Develop greater awareness among beneficiaries on the importance of infrastructure asset management as an inter-departmental local government discipline in support of sustainable, resilient, and inclusive development.
  • Increase the understanding among beneficiaries on how to implement the UN tools for infrastructure asset management in support of sustainable, resilient, and inclusive development using solid and liquid waste management assets as a starting point
