UN DESA, in partnership with Colombia's Presidential Agency for International Cooperation, hosted a peer-learning workshop to facilitate knowledge exchange on green finance among Latin American and Caribbean region. Government officials from 11 countries gathered in Santa Marta, Colombia to collaboratively discuss how to enhance regional development cooperation to promote green finance. Key priorities identified include the formulation of green taxonomies and the integration of carbon markets. Discussions centered on two main themes: "Promoting Development Cooperation with a Green Finance Approach" and "Generating Ownership of Green Finance through International Cooperation." These discussions delved into policy development, interoperability, and technical advancements in green taxonomies, carbon markets, and debt-for-nature swaps in the region.
The workshop drew insights from the DCF survey on effective development cooperation and introduced the DESA Digital Knowledge Repository for development cooperation. Recommendations were provided by attending officials to enhance the repository's utility for future endeavors. This workshop aligns with DCF's capacity development initiatives, following previous events such as the 2022 workshop on climate adaptation in cooperation policies and practices with the Government of Egypt.
